ABSTRACT
The author is showing the history of the important gentry family from Hesse, of which numerous
representatives came to the monastic state in Prussia. This paper has a double character, is linking deliberations
of genealogical issues with the historical-legal presentation. The last is necessary at discussing offices and
their competence, in relation to persons from the von Hattstein family who held them. The special place was
devoted Kuno von Hattsteinowi, which in the end one of the highest monastic offices, that is the office of the
Great Marshal performed the 14th century. Genealogical tables are complementing the work.
