History of the Journal
“Komunikaty Mazursko-Warmińskie ("Masuro-Warmian Bulletin”), published in Olsztyn since 1957, is the oldest historical journal on the area of Warmia and Mazury. This quarterly journal is a continuation and draws on the tradition of the “Scientific Information Bulletin” issued in years 1946-1950 by the Masurian Institute. Emilia Sukertowa-Biedrawina was one of the first editors of the “Komunikaty Mazursko-Warmińskie ("Masuro-Warmian Bulletin”). Nevertheless, the journal gained its reputation, recognizability and international character thanks to the work of the long-term chairperson of the Program Board – Prof. Marian Biskup, and of the members of the Editorial Board – Prof. Janusz Jasiński, Prof. Wojciech Wrzesiński, and Prof. Bohdan Łukaszewicz.
Currently, “Komunikaty Mazursko-Warmińskie” ("Masuro-Warmian Bulletin”) is a quarterly published by the Instytut Północny im. Wojciecha Kętrzyńskiego (The Wojciech Kętrzyński Northern Institute, formerly The Wojciech Kętrzyński Research Center) in Olsztyn, Towarzystwo Naukowe im. Wojciecha Kętrzyńskiego (The Scientific Society of Wojciech Kętrzyński) and State Archives in Olsztyn.
“Komunikaty” ("Masuro-Warmian Bulletin”) are found on the list of scientific journals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Aims and thematic scope of the journal
The objective of “Komunikaty Mazursko-Warmińskie” ("Masuro-Warmian Bulletin”) is to act in favour of the development and promotion of scientific research in the fields of history, archaeology, culture and church-related sciences, theological sciences regarding the contemporary area of north-eastern Poland as well as the historical areas of Prussia, northern parts of the 1st Polish Republic with Livonia, the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, former East Prussia (Warmia and Mazury, Kaliningrad Oblast, Klaipeda) and the Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia).
“Komunikaty” ("Masuro-Warmian Bulletin”) is a scientific quarterly that publishes about 30 articles – scientific papers, reviews and source texts – each year. The journal enables the exchange of scientific views as well as informs about new publications and scientific events mainly concerning Warmia and Mazury.
“Komunikaty Mazursko-Warmińskie” ("Masuro-Warmian Bulletin”) emphasise its supra-regional and international character by allowing Polish researchers to publish their texts not only in their native language, but also in foreign languages – English, German and Russian. Regardless of the language of publication, each scientific article contains full metadata in Polish and English to make it easier to find the article online.
