ABSTRACT
The paper presents the results of research into German-Polish-Russian cultural relations at the beginning of the 19th century. Its methodological framework is provided by cultural transfer theory. The paper advances the following thesis: Polish culture (Jan Śniadecki’s article On Philosophy, published in „Dziennik Wileński” in 1819 and containing a critique of contemporary German philosophy) functioned as an intermediary between German culture (the philosophy of Immanuel Kant) and Russian culture (both metropolitan and provincial socio-cultural periodicals). The subject of analysis comprises two translations of Śniadecki’s article, published in 1819 in the journals „Vestnik Evropy” („Вестник Европы”, Moscow; translator unknown) and „Ukrainskii Vestnik” („Украинский вестник”, Kharkiv; translator: Petr Hułak-Artemovsky). The translation published in the Moscow periodical initiated a discussion of Kant’s philosophy in Russia (articles by Mikhail Kachenovsky, Vasily Androsov, and others).
