ABSTRACT
During the reign of Bishop Józef Hohenzollern (1808-1836), talks were initiated with the Prussian authorities about securing a suitable seat for him within the Warmian diocese. They decided that a new bishop's palace would be built in Frombork. At least two architectural designs were prepared by August Bertram, but the final version was drawn up by Friedrich August Stüler, who was a member of the Supreme Building Deputation. On 15 October 1844, the foundation stone for the palace chapel was consecrated. In October 1846, the new bishop's palace was already roofed over. Construction work was completed at the end of 1849. Bishop of Warmia Józef Ambroży Geritz probably took up residence there in the spring of 1850.
