ABSTRACT
The establishment of the year 2025 as the Millennium Year of the Coronation of Bolesław the Brave as the first king of Poland, prompted the idea of examining whether composers have shown interest in the figure of this king. The focus of musical attention on the figures of rulers, military commanders or outstanding figures of political and social life dates back to Classicism (1750-1830). For this reason, there are very few works dedicated to Bolesław. Two songs for voice with piano accompaniment: by C. Beydale and by S. Moniuszko were written during the 19th century. Two further compositions: by Z. Moczyński for male choir and piano or orchestra and by F. Nowowiejski for mixed choir, tenor, reciter and orchestra or piano, were written in the 20th century, in connection with the celebrations of the 900th anniversary of the coronation of Bolesław the Brave. In the 21st century, performers refer to his character and post their vocal and musical interpretations on the Internet.
