ABSTRACT
This article presents an analysis of the activities of the PAX Association and the Christian Social Association (ChSS) in the 1970s in the Elbląg voivodship. PAX had organisational units in all the major towns of the province. They provided training for the organisation's activists. Cyclical lectures and cultural events were aimed at encouraging Christian circles to participate in the public, social and economic life of the People's Republic of Poland. The provincial branch of PAX also had a thriving economic base. The reach of the ChSS provincial branch, on the other hand, was small due to its personnel nature. Both organisations tried to attract the clergy. Mainly, however, they competed for the favour of priests already loyal to the state and belonging to the Caritas Association of Catholic.
