The history of fishing in Masuria cannot be discussed in full within this paper, but its purpose is
to clarify some issues related to this topic. Above all, it outlines the concessions provided for the
inhabitants within the fishing privileges, focusing on the tools used to catch fish and the issues
of fishery management within the individual elderships. The presented research is limited to the
Ryn eldership in the period up to the beginning of the 18th century. This paper does not enable
final conclusions or general assessments regarding the development of fisheries in the area of
the Great Masurian Lakes to be drawn, but it may provide a useful starting point for a future
monograph on this subject.
