ABSTRACT
The Prussian state carried out reforms in the second half of the 17th and early 18th centuries with the aim
of building a strong absolutist state. These changes affected various areas of life that were intended to strength the
state’s centralised power. This paper, based on the example of Pisz, consider how the reforms were carried out in
towns. On the one hand, the transformation and strengthening of the authorities are presented, and on the other,
their professionalisation, especially in the field of legal sciences.
