ABSTRACT
Archaeological investigations were carried out on the initiative of a local history enthusiast, who discovered the site of the former water mill in Szkotowo in 2011. Their purpose was to verify archival information, as well
as to determine the size and date of the structure. The work was carried out in the summer of 2012. In the course
of complex archaeological investigations, the wooden remains of the former watermill and nearby house were uncovered. The mill building was erected on a rectangular plan in a frame construction from pine. The remains of the
weir were recorded in the northern part of the site. A number of structural elements related to the functioning of
the facility were uncovered, i.e. parts of the platform, the reinforcing walls of the structure and the water supply to
the weir. On the basis of archaeological and dendrochronological studies, the structure could be dated to modern
times (18th – 20th centuries), and an attempt was made to reconstruct how the mill functioned (determining the
place of the mill mechanism, the type and location of the wheel). A large collection of metal, stone and ceramic
finds representing a chronological range from the 2nd to 20th century was recovered.
