ABSTRACT
The purpose of the article is to reconstruct the narrative of the Polish United Workers' Party in 1956-1980 on the example of Kętrzyn - the small city in Mazury. The basis of the analysis is the concept of narrative formulated by Sheila Fitzpatrick, understood as an important topos in society related to ideology. The analysis was based on documents produced by local instances of the PZPR and supplemented by the provincial and central levels. The article is divided into four parts, the boundaries of which are determined by significant events in the history of the People's Republic of Poland, i.e. 1956, 1957-1970, 1970-1979, 1980. Ultimately, several fundamental narratives appearing in the documents of the People's Republic of Poland were identified: modernization of the city, care for the internal affairs of the PZPR, striving for equality and increasing participation in power of workers, bureaucratization, paternalism, targeting youth, construction of secular rituals, social advancement.
