ABSTRACT
Jan Stefan Wydżga (c. 1610–1685) maintained close contacts with Zachariasz Janusz Szolc, a Warmian
canon with whom he was linked not only by his affinity but also by many years of cooperation and friendship. Traces of the affinity between the two dignitaries can be found in correspondence housed in the Archives of the
Archdiocese of Warmia in Olsztyn, in which Wydżga describes his everyday problems with episcopal administration, his health, and experiences associated with political activity. From this correspondence we learn about
the many interesting matters of the Sejm at the time, the relationship between the monarchy and Bishop Wydżga,
the possibilities of travelling during the period of his function (he held the office of bishop in 1659–1679) and the
culinary preferences of the time.
